PORTLAND, Ore. — The American College of Healthcare Sciences (ACHS), an accredited online holistic health college, has met the review process of the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine (OBNM), and the Board has renewed ACHS’s approval as an approved continuing education provider for naturopathic physicians. The OBNM ensures that licensees are qualified to provide health care to Oregonians and develops standards of care in order to maintain a high level of integrity and performance in the practice of naturopathic medicine.

“Naturopathy is continuing to grow, granting the public reliable access to natural medicine and remedies,” said Dorene Petersen, founder and president of ACHS. “Our mission here at ACHS is to promote competence and professionalism in the holistic health care industry, as well as to share credible knowledge in natural medicine. I am proud that ACHS can continue to offer continuing education training to naturopathic physicians in Oregon.”

Like most licensed professions, naturopathic physicians are held to a high standard of service and professional ethics, including 50 hours of annual, approved physician continuing education.

“There is a need for health care professionals from diverse professions to be taught when and how to collaborate,” said Clyde B. Jensen, Ph.D., vice president of university relations at The University of Western States and a member of the ACHS Board of Directors. “Because curricula are too congested to allow additional content, the best place for such inter-professional instruction is in continuing education programs.”

ACHS is OBNM-approved to award continuing education credits to physicians who complete all requirements for the continuing education courses CE 511 Advanced Herbal Materia Medica Online (4.0 CE hours), a four-week, fully online course investigating research and clinical evidence for herbs with medicinal potential; CE 512 Pharmacognosy & Phytochemistry (4.0 CE hours), a four-week, fully online course examining the major categories and subcategories of herbal constituents as a framework for understanding how molecules contribute to an herb’s observable actions; and CE 520 Advanced Aromatic Materia Medica, a four-week, fully online course investigating research and clinical evidence for essential oils with therapeutic potential.

Massage Therapy

Many people already view massage as an important approach to relieving muscle pain or as a means to relax. However, working with a qualified massage therapist can also play a significant role in improving cardiovascular health as evidenced by a growing body of research, according to the American Massage Therapy Association.

Millennial Mindset

Adult millennials, the coveted 18- to 32-year-old demographic, highly value happiness. However, according to a new US survey by Allidura Consumer and GSW, both part of inVentiv Health, and Harris Poll, there appears to be a big tension between the aspirations for happiness (97 percent say it's important) and the well-documented way millennials are currently living: more stressed, anxious, and depressed than any other living generation.

Ipad Screen

Using a tablet screening app could prove to be an effective method to aid in the effort to reduce the incidence of avoidable blindness in populations at high-risk for glaucoma with limited access to healthcare, according to a study released yesterday at AAO 2014, the 118th annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Olive Oil Benefits

More than half of olive oil users agree that choosing an olive oil is confusing because they aren't sure what's important. In fact, only 25 percent say they are "very knowledgeable" about olive oil, according to a new study conducted by the North American Olive Oil Association (NAOOA) of more than 2,000 olive oil users.

Maintaining Weight

More than 30,000 healthier product choices have been made available to consumers between 2002 and 2013, according to the 2014 Health & Wellness Survey released yesterday by the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA). The new choices represent an additional 10,000 in just the last four years.
